A weird question
Um...I don't know if this goes here, but because adoption is such I serious topic, I thought I'd tell a short funny little story of something related to *MY* adoption.
As I have said before, I have known from *day 1* that I was adopted. Even as young as 2-years-old she love to talk about how "Your birthmother loved you so much. She knew she couldn't take care of you, so she gave you to Mommy and Daddy to take care of. Mommy always wanted a little girl but couldn't have one. Mommy will always be greatfull to her for giving her her baby girl. She loved you so much, she let you go where she knew you'd be taken care of."
By age 3, I was well aware that I had "grown in my birthmother's tummy" and was adopted by Mommy and Daddy. I had even seen the tape of when "Mrs. Betty" brought me home for the 1st time - I loved watching everyone's reactions.
Now, as I said, Mom did an excellent job of explaining that I "grew in my birthmother's tummy." The problem would be when I got around 4 or 5 and came to her with the question, "Mommy. Um....if I grew in my birthmother's tummy, which end did I come out?" She managed to - somehow - weasel her way away from the question.
I do not remember how she got out of it, but I do remember getting in an argument with one of my friend's - who was just about to have little twin sisters - around age 6 or 7 over which end the baby came out - the front end or the back end. (my guess was the back end...guess I lost that bet) And that led to the all important "How does the baby get in there in the first place?"
Ok, so maybe it's off topic...but I still remember the look on my Dad's face when I (at 6) popped out with this pair of questions - - and how he suddenly had some "important work to do" in the other room. And Mom's like, "Um....I'll explain when you're older?" The next morning, "I"m older now...so how does it get in there?"
I bugged her so much over the next two years, she finally conseded and told me the "whole" story...
*coughs* anyways.....I hope this gets a laugh out of some of the mom's out there.... it was certainly funny when it happened.
