The first question I'd ask is: Who can earn a better living working outside of the home? Mom or Dad? The second question would be who can earn a better living inside the home? Remember to factor in all the seemingly little things from the costs of commuting to the value of benefits to actual salaries.

There are legitimate work from home opportunities, but you need to evaluate your skill sets in order to determine which way to go.
