Default A weird question

Um...I don't know if this goes here, but because adoption is such I serious topic, I thought I'd tell a short funny little story of something related to *MY* adoption.

As I have said before, I have known from *day 1* that I was adopted. Even as young as 2-years-old she love to talk about how "Your birthmother loved you so much. She knew she couldn't take care of you, so she gave you to Mommy and Daddy to take care of. Mommy always wanted a little girl but couldn't have one. Mommy will always be greatfull to her for giving her her baby girl. She loved you so much, she let you go where she knew you'd be taken care of."

By age 3, I was well aware that I had "grown in my birthmother's tummy" and was adopted by Mommy and Daddy. I had even seen the tape of when "Mrs. Betty" brought me home for the 1st time - I loved watching everyone's reactions.

Now, as I said, Mom did an excellent job of explaining that I "grew in my birthmother's tummy." The problem would be when I got around 4 or 5 and came to her with the question, "Mommy. Um....if I grew in my birthmother's tummy, which end did I come out?" She managed to - somehow - weasel her way away from the question.

I do not remember how she got out of it, but I do remember getting in an argument with one of my friend's - who was just about to have little twin sisters - around age 6 or 7 over which end the baby came out - the front end or the back end. (my guess was the back end...guess I lost that bet) And that led to the all important "How does the baby get in there in the first place?"

Ok, so maybe it's off topic...but I still remember the look on my Dad's face when I (at 6) popped out with this pair of questions - - and how he suddenly had some "important work to do" in the other room. And Mom's like, "Um....I'll explain when you're older?" The next morning, "I"m older now...so how does it get in there?"

I bugged her so much over the next two years, she finally conseded and told me the "whole" story...
*coughs* anyways.....I hope this gets a laugh out of some of the mom's out there.... it was certainly funny when it happened.

Oh, that is sweet! I remember when I was pregnant with my eldest, my neice (who was about 4 at the time) asked "How did the baby get IN your tummy?" I stammered a lot and finally said, "Um... Uncle John (my husband) put him there." Happily that satisfied her and she went yelling through the house. "Uncle John stuck the baby in Auntie's tummy!"

That is a funny story. My son hasn't even bothered to ask me those questions yet thankfully. When he does I will probably handle it as best as I can but more than likely will hand it over to his father to explain.

Smile Re: A weird question

When I was younger I asked the same question... my mom's answer went something like this...

When two married people decide that they are going to have a baby they set aside a special time to make the baby. This answer only lasted about a couple minutes. Mom, how do they make the baby? Well honey, they do a special dance and pray to God. Oh, Mom, how does this special dance go? Honey, you'll learn how to do this special dance when you're married.

After that my mom said no more questions about making a baby... you'll find out how when you're married.

LOL! Thanks for the laugh guys!! And I love the "special dance" Tai! What a sweet way to say it and still totally get out of the question. I just hope my son is a bit older than 3 when he first starts wondering!

My eldest son is just starting to get interested in this type of thing. He is under the impression that, when you get married, a baby automatically starts growing in the woman's tummy. It was rather difficult to explain to him that I did not get married twice - since I have two kids - and how on earth his married aunt avoided having kids.

My middle son was convinced that I had "lost" my penis. I wanted him to understand without understanding too much. We are getting to that age, and with a new baby the questions are starting to come.

LOL Kelkat. Reminds me of that cartoon where the little naked girl asks the little naked boy if she can play with it and he says "No way, you already broke yours off!"
