Build your wardrobe starting with interchangeable basics

A Pea in the Pod’s style experts recently held “5 Days of Style“ in honor of working moms, at all Destination Maternity and A Pea in the Pod locations nationwide. They worked with expectant career mothers one-on-one to create perfect workweek looks from the pieces in the new collection. “My biggest tip for expectant moms is to invest in the essential pieces to get you through your pregnancy,” says head designer Olivia Meyers.

She suggests creating multiple outfits with a few essential pieces: suit jacket, blazer and pencil skirt paired with a silk blouse, classic white shirt or even a dark skinny jean for the weekend. “Wearing the same trouser and pullover sweater every day to the office can be boring. Mixing up your wear-to-work wardrobe is key,” Meyers says.

When it comes to colors, if you looked good in it before pregnancy, you will look good while pregnant. Also, wearing neutrals is a key. “Choosing a bright colored tee or silk shirt worn with denim, khaki or black bottoms brings the focus towards the face and is a fresh alternative to a monochromatic look,” she says. “A bicolor graphic print blouse or dress can also flatter and camouflage the pregnant belly.”
