Red face make-up while pregnant?

Hello! I just had a quick question. My best friend is about 4 months pregnant. Last night, she mentioned to me that some of her co-workers told her that wearing make-up while pregnant can harm her baby. I don't completely see how it could hurt her baby, but I wanted to look into it. I searched the internet for a while but really couldn't find an answer. If anyone can give me any feedback on this, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks.

I don't really see how make-up can possibly harm a baby. If it doesn't harm the people who wear it then how can it pass on to the baby unless it's ingested? I see pregnant women every day in the malls, at schools, at offices all wearing make-up. I have never heard this before but as always check with a doctor if it's something that is of major concern.

Never heard that make up is harmful during pregnancy..I wore make up during my pregnancy and nothing happened...However i was told not to dye or perm my hair during the 1st trimester..So I dyed my hair 2 weeks before giving birth.

I have never heard of makeup harming a baby in any way. I wouldn't give it a second thought - if you've been using it all along, go on ahead and continue is my vote!

I could understand in the days when makeup wasn't tested the way it is now that MAYBE it could be harmful to the child. With today's hypoallergenic products, though, I wouldn't worry. I would have to agree with LaMarqueza that it would have to harm mommy to harm baby.

On the other hand, some women feel downright ugly without their makeup on. If they had to go nine monthes without any, they would likely crack. It's important that during this time you feel pretty and confident. If you want to wear the makeup, then wear the makeup.

I have no idea where that person was coming from I've read many books and talked to many pregnant woman and have never even thought for one minute that make-up could be bad for a baby. If you want wear it if you don't then don't.

Chances are, her co-workers are a little bit older than her. My grandmother told me they used to tell her not to wear makeup when she was pregnant because they were afraid certain ingredients would soak through her skin and harm the baby. I wouldn't worry about it nowadays though.

I wouldn't risk wearing makeup during pregnancy (then again I don't wear any). The FDA is not foolproof and sometimes products get pulled off the shelves years after being approved. If your friend is really concerned and still wants to wear makeup, maybe she could look into organic brands.

I would think that if there was a risk more people would be aware of such a thing. That is truly a new one for me!

I don't recommend it, but I was staining trim when I was pregnant with our first child. A little makeup is not going to do any damage if the stain didn't

Seriously, why do we worry so much now? Women use to work up until birth and they didn't think so much about what to eat or wear or look at. Granted, there has always been some that had those superstitions, but on the whole women have just been getting pregnant and having babies.

If you want (or need ) to wear makeup, wear it. If you are worried, then don't. That's simple, but it's the way I try to face everything.
