Default Illnesses During Pregnancy

I had Bell's Palsy (a paralysis on one side of the face) when I was almost about to give birth to my second child.

Did you have any illness while you were pregnant?

I had gestational diabetes (which we thought was well regulated, however was not - this was due to my health provider not being willing to provide a blood glucometer and making me read the color match on the side of the bottle instead.) which greatly affected the end result of my pregnancy. My son was born three weeks early and spent 10 days in Children's Hospital which his blood sugars bounced all over the place. It was a scary time.

I don't think its classified as an illness per se, but I had severe eclampsia with my first child. My blood pressure was as high as 210/110 (normal is around 120/80). I was on complete bed rest for about 2 months. No fun.

When we are pregnant, we really are prone to different changes in our body. One reason may be when we don't take in vitamins. Our baby also shares the vitamins that we have that is why it is important that we eat nutritious food and take in vitamin supplements as well.

I'm sure no one has ever heard of it, as it's very rare, but I had cholestasis of pregnancy during mine.

Unhappy Re: Illnesses During Pregnancy

I had deep vein thrombosis during my 1st pregnancy resulting in hospitalization and bed rest for the last 2 months of the pregnancy. During this pregnancy I'm just on blood thinners to prevent another DVT. Blood clots run in my family.

Kat - good thing you are so vigilant! Best of luck for an "uneventful" pregnancy and prayers that all goes well.
