Default Ultrasound Warning

No, it's not what you're probably thinking. Actually, I wanted to warn all of you who are going to get this done that you shouldn't try to drive 15 miles on a full bladder. LOL, it's been more than 3 years since my ultrasound, but I still get shivers thinking about the 32 oz of water I had to drink before the ultrasound (or try to, in my case). I ended up having to pull into a fast food joint along the way, not once, but twice.

You are so funny, but I do know exactly what you mean. That is the worst thing having to have a full bladder for your ulta sound. My sister in law puked because her bladder was so full and she just felt miserable.

Oh what memories! Due to my high risk pregnancy, I had ultrasounds every week for the last six weeks of my pregnancy (and Abe was even three weeks early so I missed out on the last three - thank goodness!). Come to find out much later that my bladder is a THIRD of a normal size, so in addition to going all the time.......all that extra water was especially tough!

You want to know the real kick in the pants . . . you don't actually need all that water, especially later in the pregnancy. The radiologist just wants the bladder full to make it easier on him. With the newer machines and with newer doctors, this is becoming less and less the norm. My doctor this go around didn't say anything about drinking before hand. He does have one of those super cool 3-d and 4-d machines, though.

Yes, I read in the books I needed a full bladder, although my doctor never told me that, but I decided to do it anyway. Guess it was all just for my own enjoyment. lol.

I never really worried about it, and my doc never said anything, so I was either keeping a full bladder most of the time (which was entirely possible) or my tech was just that good. We did get a 4-D done at about 30 weeks with Alex and it was amazing!

My doctor told me to drink the 32 ounces of water. I ended up having one glass of juice. The ultrasound tech got great pictures and didn't comment on me not having a full bladder.

We live in a small community where the equipment is older I think. I know that one of the ultra sound techs have made woman drink more water because they couldn't see well. Poor thing.

I don't remember having to drink water this last time around. Lucky me! The things pregnant women have to go through!

I had to go to the emergency room, and they put a catheder in to fill my bladder. They got more than a few choice words about the whole situation.
