Any Negative Reactions from Stranger?
I think its been discussed a lot - the positive reactions that you get from strangers when you are obviously pregnant - sometimes TOO positive when they want to rub your belly or something like that!
Has anyone, besides me, had any strangers say something negative to them about their pregnancy?
I was shopping in the supermarket one day with my 9 month old son and my obviously pregnant belly (my boys came exactly 1 year and 2 weeks apart) and some older woman came up to me and started YELLING that I was a perfect example of what was wrong with the world: unmarried teens pushing out babies and going on welfare! I just gaped at her (as did many other people nearby) and snapped, "Not that it is any of your business, but I'm 24, married, own a house and have never been on any kind of assistance!" She just humphed like she didn't believe me and stalked off.

OMG, that is one of the worst things that I have ever heard! I am so sorry that some old, cranky, unhappy lady had to say that to you and then she doesn't even believe you when you defend yourself. The only negative reaction I ever got was someone told me I was getting fat (am meant it), but that is nothing compared to your situation. Some people!

Re: Any Negative Reactions from Stranger?
I've gotten stares and not so nice comments when I was pregnant with my second and my first was a small toddler. People seem to take exception to babies spaced close together. I planned it that way, so I don't see why anybody should have a problem with it!

Re: Any Negative Reactions from Stranger?
I didn't show at all when I was pregnant (really - I lost 24 pounds, so I just wore my "heavy" clothes) - the worst I had to deal with was people saying to me afterwards, "oh you adopted"...after a high risk pregnancy and coming within 2 days of my song being stillborn, it was hard to hear. (Absolutely nothing against adoption meant here - I think it's a WONDERFUL thing.)

I can understand how that would bother you Amy. Its rather like they negated all your effort and trials with the comment.
I think it is true that people think you are plain nuts having children close together. Mine weren't particularly planned that way - just letting nature take her course. I have to say that afterward, I pretty much thought I was crazy too

Re: Any Negative Reactions from Stranger?
I usually get the ole "you do know what causes this, don't you?"
Other than that, people tend to talk more behind my back than anywhere else. Besides, I'm mostly around homeschoolers and their only shock is that I'm not pregnant more .

Re: Any Negative Reactions from Stranger?
It's horrendous what some people will say. I think it really has much more to do with jealousy than anything else. I never had any real negative things said to me while I was pregnant, other than some cashier arguing with me that I HAD to be having twins if I was THAT big (I gained 15 lbs when pregnant with my son, but apparently I was THAT big). I also had one lady get ugly with me after Alex was born. We were in Target picking out a father's day card for my husband and Alex was sitting in his seat just babbling to his toy. A lady nearby kept huffing and puffing and finally looked and me and said "Can't you just shut him up?" He wasn't screaming or crying, just talking in his own little way. Made me so mad I wanted to mop the floor with her face.

Re: Any Negative Reactions from Stranger?
Oh my goodness tigriz doesn't she realize what it's like to have kids? Especially if they are being good and just chattering and not crying or whining. I guess I just don't understand some people. They must not know or remember what it's like to have kids.

Too bad you didn't think to tell her that you preferred his "babble" to her rudeness any day!

Re: Any Negative Reactions from Stranger?
Afterwards it was actually kind of funny. I can only imagine what kind of crappy day or life that woman was having to be so mean about things. But I on the other hand, got to go home with Alex and we spent an hour singing along to the radio. Man how I wish she had been there to hear that!
