I'm glad you've decided to keep up your schooling. If you can have family help you out the first few years you can take an accelerated program that will help you complete school faster. You can also try taking classes at a community college that will also help.

No way. He does the cooking and cleaning? Man, what a difference that would make for me. After cooking dinner (including homemade spagetti from tomatos I grew in the garden) I'm looking at the dishes and wondering why someone else hasn't washed them.

As for the whole working while pregnant, I'm a WAHM so if I weren't to get the job because I was pregnant it would be my own fault.

Cudo's to those of you who can work while pregnant. I'm truly in awe.

Kelkat, don't you find though that you have a 24/7 job rather than just a 9 to 5 one? I am a WAHM too and I swear I NEVER get a day off!! Sometimes I just want a vacation already!

I use to think that . . . until I got a day off. When I got home there were dishes in the sink, none of the beds were made, and my children were so excited about seeing me that they were all over me.

Vacation is just another word for mommy's got more work to do!

I hope you ladies are half joking about the 24/7 WAHM thing. Shared responsibility doesn't "just happen" - kids (and spouses) need to be trained to help out and understand that you can't do it all, all the time. TOo often womenplace this burden all on themselves and part of it is that no one else can do their job right (after all - it's job security) and the others in the household feel that and don't even try. Set some jobs out for others to do - and accept how they do them. I speak from 23 years of marriage experience whre I was a WAHM mother fo the first 20 years - until I had to go to work full time for a variety of reasons. I was glad to have the help, but things still started to slip and I was expected to pick up the slack. After a bit of self browbeating, I realized I needed to ask for help and then expect it as well.

Didn't mean to ruffle feathers with my earlier comment from the employers viewpoint - of course I don't think ANYONE should be discriminated against.

I was discriminated against as well. I only work part time, but I wanted to work an extra day, going in early to open the store. They wouldn't let me because I might get morning sickness and be in the bathroom all morning instead of working. Um, Hello!! I usually go in at 8 or 9 am. What is the difference between that and 6 am? Not to mention the fact that I haven't even had any morning sickness whatsoever! Not at work or home or anywhere else!

You have 180 days to file a complaint, so I let this one incident go, but if it continues in any way, I will file against them. It's pretty bad when they just *assume* that you can't do your job without even letting you try.

You know, I had the exact opposite happen when I was pregnant with my first. I worked at that time in a warehouse, and often had to pick up 90 pound boxes. They said "Oh, if you need someone to pick up a box, just ask" but they would never be available if I did, so I gave up. Then, 4 days before my due date when I said I had to take my time off, they got mad at me for 'leaving so soon.'

Its really sad that pregnancy discrimination goes on in todays society, giving birth is one of the most natural and common events in the world. I've watched many young women go through discrimonation because of there age. I remember when i was pregnant the first time, and I was in the library studying for an exam, and a worker in the library asked me if I wanted to see the social assitance sign up papers! I was so embarrased! ... its sad what women have to go through!
