I just found out that I'm pregnant but I don't have medical insurance. I make more than the state minimum to qualify for assistance but I'm not rich by ANY MEANS. What do I do?
I've heard of a couple companies like: Ameriplan and Maternity Card that offer "discounted rates" and such for a monthly fee. Is this a decent alternative to acutal medical coverage? Is it true that I can't get maternity insurance now that I know I'm pregnant b/c it is "pre-existing?" I'd REALLY appreciate any advice, I'm really worried about this.

I'm curious about this too. I make more than state allows for medicaid, but I"m swamped with credit card debt. From what I've heard maternity card you pay a monthly fee and then you get discounts on your visits and what not, somewhere in the ball park of 40-60%. Not sure how expensive in total it is to have a baby.

I've been in contact with the Maternity Card people and they charge $199 for the 1st month, then $100 for 11 months after that. On their website they show bills from hospitals that were SUPPOSEDLY in the ballpark of $19,000 that they had reduced to around $3,000.

How on EARTH do they do that? Sounds to good to be true, huh? This seems like it might be a scam...I don't know. I hope somebody with experience in this matter will respond soon.
