Sex and Pregnancy
Hello all,
What month during your pregnancy is it okay to have intercourse? I've heard that if you're a little late with your pregnancy that you help get things going if you have intercourse. Or is this just some crazy thing that my friend was telling me?
Thanks

Re: Sex and Pregnancy
I know it helped with my delivery. Less than 24 hours after intercourse, my son was born. As a matter of fact, we pretty much went from the bed to the hospital. I think it has something to do with the muscles that contract during orgasm, but I'm not sure. It didn't do anything for my first two births. Ofcourse this third child was ready to see the world any way and shot out like a bolt. So maybe there isn't much to the myth. Check with your doctor to see if it's okay and then if it is, have some fun!

Yes, I would definitely check with your dr. Depending on you, sometimes the dr. says it's okay and sometimes they advise you to stop. I had such pain with intercourse toward the end of my pregnancy, we had to stop. My muscles would tense up, it was not any enjoyable experience.

Re: Sex and Pregnancy
I read that you actually release a hormone during sex (especially orgasm) that also increases during labor. Sometimes your body reads that increase in hormone as the beginning of labor and "gets things going". You have to be fairly close to going into labor yourself anyway though, I'm fairly certain.

Best to go with what you are comfortable with and with your physician's knowledge of the activity. Certainly if you feel any pain/discomfort, it should be immediate grounds to stop.

Yep Amy, that is just what my dr said and that is what I did (if my hubby liked it or not, lol). Woman are all so different so everything is different depending on how your body reacts.

Re: Sex and Pregnancy
I had some preterm labor and my doctor concluded it was triggered by sex, since sperm can cause you to contract. I wasn't allowed to have sex for weeks!

Re: Sex and Pregnancy
My husband and I didn't like the idea of having sex when I am almost going to give birth, in about 1-2 months time before my due date. Just doesn't seem to feel right. This is the only time that I have heard that it would help in the labor and delivery of the baby if you had intercourse when it is almost your due.
