Exercise during pregnancy
Exercises during pregnancy must be started gradually. Many experts recommend walking. If you're just starting, begin with a moderately brisk pace for 3 days a week. Add a couple of minutes every week, pick up the pace a bit, and eventually add hills to your route. Go slowly for the first 5 minutes to warm up and use the last 5 minutes to cool down. Your energy level may also vary greatly from day to day. And as your baby grows and pushes up on your lungs, you'll notice a decreased ability to breathe in more air when you exercise. If you feel uneasy stop immediately.

Re: Exercise during pregnancy
I was actually forbidden to do any exercising while pregnant both by my gynecologist and by my aerobic trainer. My pregnancy was perfectly healthy and i had no signs of possible complications. I also did regular, not heavy exercising before I got pregnant. I read everywhere that exercising in pregnancy should be encouraged, so I wanted to continue lightly but they both said NO. They told me I would have plenty of time to exercise after I am done with being pregnant.
I did some pilates exercises on my own, using a "PILATES IN PREGNANCY" book and it did feel good to stretch a bit but I didn't continue with them because these two were so categorical about me not doing any exercises.

Re: Exercise during pregnancy
before i got pregnant, i was excersising an hr a day- pilates, weighted hula hoop and some aerobics. As soon as i found out i was pregnant i got a pregnancy pilates DVD that was rated very highly, by niece pecenka.
i'm now at 20 weeks and loving it- i know that i'm not putting myself or my baby at risk by doing these gentle excersises, but i still feel great, toned, in shape, and most of all, energized.

Re: Exercise during pregnancy
It is recommened that you keep the same level of exercise you did before pregnancy, unless you were stationary. For example- if you normally did not work out, you would not want to just start up in a heavy cardio class.
You should consult your doctor before starting any exercise routine while pregnant. Once he gives you the OK I suggest you pick up a pregnancy YOGA or PILATES dvd. Most libraries offer them for free rental as well.
Thanks

Re: Exercise during pregnancy
When I was pregnant with my first child, I did a lot of walking following the advice of my mom. She said it will make the muscles do their work once you go on labor. And so, I walked -- on the way to school and on the way home, strolling around malls... And you know what, all the walking actually paid off. I delivered a healthy baby girl in less than 15 minutes after I was made to lie down in the delivery room.
