Exclamation sperm bank

howdy,
i'm single and i want to have kids, but haven't found a steady mate. i've thought about going to a sperm bank or something and finding a good match. i don't exactly know what i'm looking for. the problem is is that i'm getting older, almost 35 and i've heard there are more complications with pregnancy for older women. is there anyone out there with good advice on where to go or how to approach this?
thanks

Try Sperm Bank of California.

Quote:
The Sperm Bank of California (TSBC) is the first and only sperm bank in the United States to operate as a nonprofit organization. Our mission is to provide services, information, and resources to all women and men who choose to create or expand their families through donor insemination and sperm storage.

Since our founding over twenty years ago, we have been dedicated to promoting an open approach to donor insemination and advocating for family diversity. We are proud to have developed the first Identity-Release® Program in the world, a program that allows adult children conceived by donor insemination to learn their donor's identity. We conduct research on many aspects of donor insemination in order to enhance societal acceptance of alternative family building and to inform and challenge industry practices.

TSBC is registered as a reproductive tissue bank with the FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) and we are in full compliance with FDA regulations governing donor screening and testing procedures. We are registered with the FDA under our legal name, Reproductive Technologies, Inc.

Try the Fairfax Sperm Bank. I think it's in Fairfax, Virginia. If you'd like the website, I can find my paperwork and get it for you. It's the one I used and I thought they were great. The prices were fair, they had a lot of choices and it worked for me! Let me know if there's anything else I can help you with.

Just want to know this about sperm bank and donors:

How are the donors screened? I am more concerned of the family background of the donor if we don't know them personally.
If we know of somebody who we'd like to be a donor, would that be fine?

Thanks.

The donors go through a very lengthy screening process. They do testing for several diseases and genetic problems. They also get family histories, as well as, personal profiles. They get ages of grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles and siblings, as well as, health issues and if they have problems. At least that's how the bank we went through was. I do know you can use someone you know because we were asked about that at the fertility clinic, but I know it can bring up some other issues, both medical and legal. I'm not completely sure how that would all work as we chose not to go that way. Hope that information helps.

i'm curious about the selection process. what exactly am i looking for? i know i would like my sperm donor to be white or asian (i love eurasian babies they are soooo cute ) i would like him to be intelligent and athletic. can you specify these types of things? does it cost extra to choose what they deem more desireable characteristics?

thanks for your previous post

I am 37 and want to have another child but haven't found a mate yet. Where can I go to find good information about sperm banks in my area and that will give honest advice to women of my age?

well i'm not sure about sperm banks in your area, as i'm not sure where you're from, but I didn't use a sperm bank in my area. I had the sperm shipped to the fertility clinic. The sperm bank I did use was excellent though and it was the Fairfax Cryobank. I believe that is what it was called. If you would like the exact website, let me know and I will find it for you. As for honest information, I'm sure any fertility doctor would give that to you.

No, it doesn't cost extra to specify these things. If you check out their website, you can get a list of items. I believe it looks at race, ethnicity, education, interests, height, weight, eye color, and hair color. These are the basics. However, if you want to pay extra, you can get more of the profile, as well as a childhood picture, among other things. You get to look through their entire list of donors and their characteristics and then you can choose what you like. Hope this helps clarify things. Let me know if you need anything else, as I would love to help as much as I can.
