Default Uterine Insemination, advice please?

Hi
I was interested to know if anyone has had a BFP or successful pregnancy from a IUI (in uterine insemination) and how long it took.

My fertility specialist says the success rate of IUI is apparently about 10% per cycle.
This seems the same for over 35yrs old doing it naturally.
You would hope it would have a better success rate.
Has anyone got any advice?
Just wondering if we should go down that path!

Oh, I'm 38 so that could effect the success rate???????

what is IUI? in uterine insemination? is this at all similar to artificial insemination? if not what is the difference? BTW what are the success rates for artificial insemination? doesn't this also lead to sometimes having twins, triplets, quads, etc?

I'm going to try to answer both of your posts here so if I leave anything out, please let me know. IUI is a type of artificial insemination. It is getting the sperm all the way to the uterus to increase the chances of fertilization. Now I was very blessed and got pregnant on the first IUI attempt. However, I was told that there is about a 20% success rate for each try and on average it takes about 3 tries to get pregnant. I was 26 at the time, that was almost 2 years ago and I am looking at having it done again now. As for multiple births, I think your chances of them are much higher with in vitro than with artificial insemination. They do however give you fertility drugs to help you ovulate, so there is a higher chance of multiple births than with getting pregnant through sex, since you are increasing the number of eggs you have waiting to be fertilized is generally increased. Okay, hope that answers all your questions. Please let me know if there's anything I missed or anything else you would like to know.

Hi Kateland,

Just read your post and thought I'd share my experience

I am on my 3rd round of IUI...sadly my first two were unsuccessful.

I am 43 so I know that my age has a bit to do with it...but I refuse to think negative and keep on doing whatever I can to get the biggest blessing...and become a mom. If you have been trying to conceive naturally for a least a year with no success...In my humble opinion...I would suggest trying IUI! I am on another board where we share our 2 week wait (after the IUI you have to wait 2 weeks before taking your Home Pregnancy Test) which seems like the longest 2 weeks EVER! LOL...anyway we have 15 ladies who have already tested this month and 10 are positive!!! Pregnant!!! It just gives you hope and inspiration to hear others who are in the same boat and have had success in their treatments.

Wishing you Lots of baby dust and prayers
Good Luck to you!!
Bella

Bella,

You know that 3rd time's the charm! My aunt had IUI done about 6 or 7 years ago, she was 38 or 39 at the time and now she has twin girls. So stay hopeful and I don't know about anyone else, but I'd like to hear back from you and see if it's a big success!

Best wishes,
Tai

Wow - good luck to all of you. I too went through a fertility specialist to get pregnant however did not have to go the UI route. Bless you all for being so persistant and best of luck!

One of my friends got pregnant on her second try with IUI. She has a 1 month old healthy baby boy now. So good luck to all of you who are going to try it.
