Hi,

I’m without health insurance and furthermore I don’t have any maternity insurance. I was wondering if any of you would be able to recommend some good services that are fairly inexpensive.

Also, do any of you know where I could find some good quality info on pregnancy, pregnancy issues, pregnancy weight gain, and other stuff related?

Any good books you can suggest?

If anyone answers this post, let me know. I'm in the same boat you are. We had our first baby back in December of 05. We had insurance at the time. Thank goodness because otherwise we'ld STILL be making payments towards the 20000 dollars it just about cost to go to all my ob visits, lab work, and the actual having the baby, plus her bills afterwards. We just found out we are pregnant agina, with only a five month gap between the first ones brth and the start of this pregnancy. And because my husband switched jobs at the begining of the year, we currently have no benefits of any kind. Our daughter's immunizations have all been out-of-pocket, but it was actually cheaper that way. Not labor and an anesthesiologist though! I hope to find SOME solution soon. I need to see an ob asap for our first prenatal visit. Good luck to you!

there are a few companies that do this, but I am not sure yet about quality. I will do some more research and let you know. I personally had the benefit covered.

My sis in law did not have a job either. she was able to get on WIC a gov't program that helps you buy groceries while you're pregnant and helps buy formula when the baby is born. She was also able to get on Medicaid. Sometimes this may be a humbling experience for some but it's what it is there for! pay out of pocket as little as you can. Utilize these programs b/c they are out there for you.

Oh and you know, if you get married, your husband insurance may cover.

I never knew there was insurance you could get after you were pregnant - except for Medicaid. I used that for my first pregnancy because my dead-beat husband (now ex) decided to quit his job about 3 months into the pregnancy and we lost insurance.

While waiting to find out about insurance, you should immediatley look into Medicaid and WIC as suggested above. Get that process rolling and get eh best health care an dsupples for you and your family. Do not let pride get in the way of providing for your chld and fetus.

I want to thank everyone for their hasty posts. I will be calling The local Medicaid coordinator Monday morning. Pride is a bitter pill to swallow, but a $14,000 hospital bill is even harder to stomach. But I will still be checking back here to see if anyone does find an insurance program that would enroll me. I was in your same situation only a few weeks ago. In the state I live there is a program called HealthWave. It is a really great program and it takes care of just about EVERYTHING at little or no cost to you depending on your income. Might be something for you to check out.

I believe that every state has a medicaid plan that you will most likely be eligible for depending on your income. This will pay for pretty much everything from doctor visits to giving birth. Usually you will be able to keep the baby on medicaid after it is born for as little as 20$ a month. Look into health clinics in your area and they can probably help you get signed up.
