Musically inclined?
Does anyone feel that a child can be predisposed to being musically inclined based on the parents talents? HOw about the type of music they hear while they are in the womb?

Re: Musically inclined?
I've often wondered the same thing, because it seems like our kids pick up on our talents. Maybe it is because we exposed them to such things as sports, or music, or art at an early age that they were able to grasp on.
One of my best friends in college can decipher lyrics from some of the hardest music to understand like rap or punk rock. She attributes this to her mom always singing to her when she was in the womb. My friend has extraordinary listening skills and can hear from a mile away. Maybe this is coincidence, who knows.
I wonder what the recent study says on listening to music while they are in the womb. Anyone know?

Re: Musically inclined?
I never thought about the reading - I am a writer and was always reading to my son. He writes very well, is a voracious reader and speed reads with a very high level of comprehension. (Were his great musical talent comes from I don't know - I have ZERO musical talent and my husband has a middle school trombone history and that's it!)

Re: Musically inclined?
My husband is very musical and was a music major in college. Our son is pretty musical we think. He love to play the piano and does quite well. He will start lessons in a few months.

Re: Musically inclined?
I do believe that letting your baby listen to music while in the womb greatly affect the baby. Whatever the baby listens while still in the womb, is retained and it helps. When my younger baby was still in my womb, I would let him listen to speeches of my speakers because I, too, likes to listen to them. Now, he talks a lot and he doesn't have any apprehensions when it comes to talking and singing.

Re: Musically inclined?
I listened to a lot of classical music early on in my pregnancy, but got sick of it and started listening to my favorite hard rock songs later in the pregnancy. My toddler loves these two types of music. She can't stand rap music (like me). My dh isn't thrilled about this--he likes rap.

Just a little example of a mother's influence! (Sorry Dad's - dont' take it personally, I know and believe in the powers of your influence as well, however, we do have a unique nine month head start on you!)
