Default Cousin rivalry?

There are five grandchildren in our family which gives us five direct cousins. I think we've been pretty fortunate taht there has not been a great deal of rivalty between them. There has been however, the parents who made their kids responsible for their actions, schoolwork, etc and those kids have generally excelled. Those who were not held accountable have generally settled in to an "average" expectation of life. Has anyone else found these generalities? (And yes, I realize I'm being very loose here with the definitions and boundaries.)

Yes, I would have to say I have seen those same generalizations in myself and my cousins and seem to be seeing the same trend for my sister's kids as well.

I think that generality goes for all children everywhere. If a parent holds them accountable and makes the realize the responsibility of their actions - including study habits - that child is more likely to excell.
