Amy, I think that is a very good idea to give your son the outlet like that - an impartial third (and fourth) party where he is free to unburden his stresses.

I agree katharina that, even if the teen would pretend not to want to read the letter, they will in the end. My friend never handed a letter to her son, always pushed it under the door of his room or something less direct.
