Default wedding registries

ok, I need your help as I will be writing about wedding registries for a mag and I'm looking for an angle.

do you buy gifts off the wedding registry?
did you have a wedding registry when you got married?
what do you love and what do you hate about wedding registries?

I remember from a cousin's wedding that everyone rushed to get the toaster and avoided the grill at all cost

I rarely go with wedding registries. I just can't get past the feeling that it's supposed to be my "ticket" to the event or something. I have a few unique gift ideas taht I go with. Idon't really consider it my job to supply the bride and groom with the particular wastebasket they've chosen for their bathroom! (The only timeI worked off a registry was a stock registry for a couple (lived together 10 years before marrying and had it all!) who were setting up their retirement fund. It was the gift that kept on giving wheere I was concerned and different enough that it hooked me.)

I rather plan for my own wedding because it is better to do it yourself, especiallyif there are unique ideas that come into my mind that I just can't easily delegate.
