Fingernails!!
Is anyone else having a time with their little one's fingernails growing like crazy? I swear I trim Alex's every few days (if I don't he scratches up his face inadvertently). Luckily he's used to the process by now, and is great about holding still while I trim them.

Re: Fingernails!!
We did a lot of trimming - best way I ever did it was to sit abe on my lap, with his back to my chest and work with his hands form that angle. Way too tough fo rme face to face -seemed like his hands were never at teh right angle.....

Re: Fingernails!!
That's the method I used too, Amy. It is definately easier to do it that way - until baby gets too big. My youngest ones toe nails grew horribly fast.

Re: Fingernails!!
Someone gave me some of the curved nail clippers when I had my first son. They just let me see what I'm doing much better. I found some in Walmart for this go around (the ones I've had for 9 years were finally wearing down). I also sit my baby in my lap and hold his hand (similar to mine).
The two older boys have nails that grow the same way. It seems like they are getting trimmed every other day. They get it from their father!

Yes! And I am a total butcher with the nail clippers. I always make my poor babies bleed, so I just try and bite them off instead. So the baby's nails are always jagged.

Re: Fingernails!!
Sister, a few months ago I was doing Alex's nails and he yanked his hand just as I squeezed down on his thumb. I took a big chunk of skin with it and it bled like crazy. I felt absolutely horrible! Amazingly enough, it didn't bother Alex in the least!! My husband of course had a great time teasing me because he knew I felt awful about it. My grandmother apparently did the same thing to me when I was a kid and she was afraid to tell my mother for fear that she'd never get to keep me again! I think it happens to everyone, just more often to the parents of wiggleworms!

See, I did the exact same thing with my eldest daughter only I panicked and ran her to Urgent Care. Of course she was fine but I've been terrified of doing it ever since!

Re: Fingernails!!
guess we just have to make it a part of the routine to cut our baby's fingernails every now and then as it is understandable that they grow up quickly

Re: Fingernails!!
When my youngest was younger, I kept the baby mittens (or socks in a jam) on his hands. I waited until he was asleep before I tried to cut his nails. Now that he's a little older and sitting better, I sit him in my lap. If you can find a set of the curved nail clippers, they give you a better view of what you are cutting so that you don't cut the baby's hand.
