Who to turn to for advice
As I browse through the forum, a lot of these questions remind me of the things that I turned to my mother for 17 years abgo when I had my son. How many of you turn to your mom (or an aunt, or other trusted female "elder")for advice on caring for and raising your children? I'm wondering if the internet has opened things up somuch that this method of passing down information from generation to generation has changed?

Re: Who to turn to for advice
I still rely heaviest on my own mother and my mother in law when I'm truly stumped. I do research quite a bit though, as things have changed a bit since they had children. Both of their kids are in their thirties now, so some things, especially medical stuff has completely changed.

Re: Who to turn to for advice
I asked my mother and my dad. Mostly I ask my friends that have had children recently. It's amazing what all you forget with time. My 7mth old is 7 years younger than his brothers. In just that short time, I forgot how often I breast fed, how I started them on food, and what food, and pretty much everything else worth knowing!

Re: Who to turn to for advice
I talked with my mother, but not really about anything concrete. Mostly I just went by instinct. For an example: I knew the basics of when a baby should start on solids and then I fed the kid till he wasn't hungry anymore.

I talk with my mother a little bit, but I think things have changed so much since she had kids, things are always changing. I mainly rely on my doctor.

Re: Who to turn to for advice
It's good to hear how many turn to their mothers. I'm finding it intersting ot hear how much "things have changed". I'd love to be ablt o fast forward 20 years or so and as wel all beocme grandparents how much we feel things have changed and outadvice would be "obsolete."

Re: Who to turn to for advice
I talk to my mom every day, but when it comes to advice I speak to other moms or read what the experts have to say. My mom is great for listening to my woes, but she doesn't know what to tell me about my potty training struggles, LOL.

Re: Who to turn to for advice
One of the best things my mompointed out to me was that both my children and I would be stronger for the "mistakes" I made becasue we would be learning together, but that I needed to learn from them as well.
