I agree that not stressing and letting things develop naturally is the best way to go with potty training! Everybody figures it out at their own pace.

The average age of potty training complete is 30 months. The average start age is 16 months. I let both of my children train themselves with some gentle nudging. Why make an issue out of something natural?

I am thinking of just trying it with my 14-month-old daughter. She seems to like to at least play with the potty chair.

Someone already said it, but I think that one of the most important
things is to not "punish" if there's an accident or if the child won't go
while on the potty chair. Making it stressful like that would probably
set the training back and not help at all, I'd think.

I never once made a big deal out of it and it just happened when my
daughter was ready. She was 2 and there were only ever just one or
two bed wettings during the whole process.

It's easiest to teach children with older siblings. At least it was for me. It seems that always want to do and be like big brother (I also hear its easier to teach boys.)

Sometimes do we just place too much importance in pushing our children through this process? I think we just need to let this happen and know that this is a process that's been happening for thousands of years!

I think I am actually going to try it with my 15-month old. If she doesn't like it, we'll wait a while yet.

Oh, I think absolutely we do this. It's like if someone tells us
their child was totally trained at age 2, if our child gets to 28 months
and isn't totally trained yet, it seems like a terrible thing. Of course
it's not at all, but that's the way people are.
