Default Does your baby ever stay awake for no reason?

My baby was up ALL night last night for no apparent reason. She wasn't hungry, wasn't feverish, nothing like that. She just wanted to play. I can't figure it out and I'm desperately hoping it doesn't happen again tonight!

Babies are really like that. Their sleeping pattern constantly changes and it is a part of taking care of them but you can do it, Sister!

Yeah, babies' sleeping patterns are weird. Just when you think they are going to keep sleeping through the night, they decided they would rather play at 2:00 am. Eventually, they get it.

Think of it as a "growth spurt" of the brain. We al acept htem when we see them physically - this is jsut that, only you can't see it. I know it's hard, but go with the flow - eventually your little one's body will feel the need to catch up on the sleep it's lost, and hopefully your schedule will allow for that at that time as well!

Weird. I've never had that with Alex (knock on wood), though we did have some nights in the beginning when he started sleeping all the way through, then he would revert and wake up a few times and want to eat, then back to sleeping all the way through. My best advice would be to follow her cues. When she seems to be getting tired, lay her down and see if she'll rest. Alex put himself on a schedule pretty much right off the bat and he's been super easy ever since!

It probably is a growth spurt. Try to remember some of those nights during pregnancy when you just couldn't get comfortable and fall asleep. Wouldn't it have been nice if your husband had gotten up and played backgammon or something else with you until you did fall asleep?

My suggestion is not to over do the playing at 2 am. You can give her something in the crib, but let her entertain herself. If you start her now, knowing that bed time is bed time, it will be much easier in the future.

Yes, there were many times my daughter has been ready to get up and play in the middle of the night. As hard as it is, you just have to try not to let them trick you!
