Are you going to have hubby cut the cord?
My husband is squeamish and refused to cut the cord during both deliveries. My mother cut the cord for my eldest daughter, and the second one was done by the doctor.

Re: Are you going to have hubby cut the cord?
My husband and I had planned to have him cut the cord, but when the time came he didn't because he was SO overwhelmed just by seeing everything happening down there.

My ex didn't. The doctor asked him if he wanted to and he said, "Uh... I think that's your job." For my second birth he read a magazine on the other side of the room.

Re: Are you going to have hubby cut the cord?
My husband cut the cord when Alex was born, though it was a bit easier to plan since he came via c-section. The one thing he was NOT going to do again was walk around the bottom of the operating table to watch them clean up the baby. Because of all the machines he didn't have any other way to get over there and thus had to see me, totally cut open! How gross!

I'm glad to see that we're not the only ones a bit squemish about this! With my first daughter they acted like we were weird because neither of us wanted to watch the birth or anything.

Re: Are you going to have hubby cut the cord?
Steve did not cut the cord, however during my c-section, he talked to me the whole time and his reaction wasn't how gross, but how cool. He looked at me and then glanced over the drape and said "this is so cool - your organs are all over the place!" So..........I guess it depends on the husband and their "medical exposure"...my husband was a paramedic at the time.

Re: Are you going to have hubby cut the cord?
LOL Amy. For my husband it was more like "why are you cutting on my wife, and fix it RIGHT now!" I think it scared him more than anything, just the realization that it is major surgery and that something could have gone wrong.

My husband would have hit the floor if he saw that! I think we were both too scared to even pay attention to the birth at that point. I just wanted it over with.
