Experts say DO NOT use cold meds for children under 6!
Health advisors on Friday issued warning to parents asking them to not use over-the-counter cold medicines on children under 6 years of age until further studies can be conducted.
These recommendations apply to cold medicines containing following ingredients: decongestants, antihistamines and antitussives.
Sean Hennessy, a University of Pennsylvania epidemiologist, said "The data that we have now is they don’t seem to work".
FDA panelists have voted unanimously to study children's cold medicines further to determine more accurately there effectiveness. But as it stands, over-the-counter cold medicine for children ages all the way up to 11 are questionable at best.
