The Importance of a Bedtime Routine

When babies are born, they have no concept about when to sleep and when to wake. They learn good sleep habits from their parents, who fantasize about the days when their babies will sleep through the night.

Develop a nighttime routine when your baby is about 6 to 8 weeks of age, and use that time to bond with your baby while you send him off to sleep.

What is The Importance of a Bedtime Routine

Be consistent. Consistency is one of the most important parts of the bedtime routine. Pick a bedtime and stick with it, especially in the beginning when baby starts adjusting to his routine. Pick a time that you and the rest of the family can commit to””and enjoy.

Be quiet. In the beginning, your baby will probably wake for feedings during the night. Keep the stimulation to a minimum (think dark, quiet room) so that baby doesn’t get used to fully waking.
