When to Go Off BC?
My husband and I know we want to start trying for our second baby when our son turns one. He's six months old now. I'm currently on Seasonale, the pill that lets you have your period four times a year. I'm wondering if it would be smarter to stop taking it now and use another form of bc until January or just stay on it and stop then?

Re: When to Go Off BC?
I guess I don't know very much about seasonale, but my sister went off the pill for about a day and got pregnant. I was truly amazed at how fast she did get pregnant. I have always heard that if you miss your pill by a couple hours you could get pregnant, but I didn't know of anyone it had actually happened to until my sister.

Re: When to Go Off BC?
Wow. I haven't known anyone to have that kind of luck (or bad luck, depending on her situation). I asked because I was on BC before we got married and once I went off it took us eight months to conceive. I figured my system was trying to regulate off all the hormones.

Re: When to Go Off BC?
What a cute baby! From what I've heard and learned in health class way back when. I won't mention how long ago BC stays in your system for while depending on how long you have taken it. If you've taken it for years religiously then it will probably take you longer to get pregnant.

Re: When to Go Off BC?
I'd talk to your obgyn about your history with how long it took you the last time you went off the pill. It may or may not have had any bearing, but it would be good to keep opne the lines of communication. I also haven't heard of seasonale - sounds really interesting.

Re: When to Go Off BC?
Stop taking the BC NOW! The hormones are not good for the pregnancy. You can get pregnant, but it's not a good idea. That's why it's recommended that you lay off hormonal birthcontrol for several months before you try getting pregnant.

Honestly I think you should wait until the last possible minute to go off birth control. I got pregnant with both my children immediately. If you want to give your hormones time to settle, use condoms for a month or two.

Re: When to Go Off BC?
Yes, I agree that the best advise is to talk to your doctor. Every womans body is different and you don't know how your body is going to react until it actually happens. I would just talk to your dr.

Re: When to Go Off BC?
Homonal birth control is not good for pregnancy. What I mean is that it is not good for the baby, that is why it is recommended that you go off hormonal birth control before trying to conceive. Do talk to your doctor, but do go to a non hormonal birth control for a few months.
